Ten posts up for re-election this year

By Kay S. Pedrotti Lamar County has 10 positions scheduled for the voters’ choices this year, according to ballot information from the board of elections and registration office. Positions, incumbents and qualifying fees are: county commission district 3, Van Baker, $108; county commission district 4, Nancy Thrash, $108; Board of Education district 1, Horace Hightower, $138; BOE district 3, Susan Byars, $114; magistrate judge, Karen Jackson, $1,392.25; sheriff, Brad White, $1616.40; Probate judge, Kathy Martin, $1,392.25; clerk of superior court, Caleb Tyson, $1,392.25; tax commissioner, Andrea Anthony, $1,392.25, and coroner, Jim Smith, $119.08. Qualifying for all offices begins at 9 a.m. on March 7 and ends at 12 noon on March 11. The general primary will be held May 24 and the general election on Nov. 8. Deadline to register to vote in the primary is Feb. 1, said elections supervisor Anita Reid. Her office is located on the second floor of the county administration building next to the courthouse on Thomaston Street. The board of elections met last night to prepare.
