Teresa Burousas arrested for murder

Teresa Burousas has been arrested in connection with the murder of her husband. Burousas, 46, was arrested July 31. She is charged with felony murder, malice murder and aggravated assault. At 5 p.m., Teresa Burousas was led from the Pike County jail in handcuffs and leg shackles. Deflated, despondent and accompanied by three deputies, she slumped into the back of a patrol car and was transported to the Upson County jail where she will be held indefinitely. Pike sheriff Jimmy Thomas said his investigation revealed the victim, Jimmie (Buzz) Burousas Jr., was shot twice in the driveway of his home July 1. Warrants for Teresa Burousas were taken after investigators conferred with the district attorney’s office. Teresa Burousas is the daughter of Pike County commission chairman Doug Mangham. Buzz Burousas was the son of longtime Lamar County chief magistrate Jimmie Burousas, Sr. Buzz Burousas, 60, was found dead in his truck in the driveway of his home at 560 Caldwell Bridge Rd. near Concord. The original call came in at 4:30 p.m. In the yard of the home at the other end of the long drive, responding deputies found Teresa Mangham Burousas. Initial reports were she had been beaten with a tire iron and hammer. She was airlifted to Grady Hospital in Atlanta but released just hours later and was able to attend the funeral of her husband July 5. Acting on information received from Mrs. Burousas, sheriff Thomas issued a lookout for two suspects. That information was apparently fictitious
