The 26th annual Community Awards Banquet will be held at the Barnesville Civic Center on March 5 beginning at 7 p.m.”This is an important event for our community because it is a time where many of Barnesville’s most valuable citizens are recognized,” said Barnesville-Lamar County Chamber of Commerce president Amanda Rose.Tickets for the catered event will be $25 and will be available at the chamber until Feb. 20.The chamber will give two awards, Outstanding Citizen and Business Person of the Year.Last year’s Outstanding Citizens were Charles and Jean Dukes. The Outstanding Citizen is chosen based on community and military service and activities in civic, church or social organizations that benefit Barnesville and Lamar County.Business People of the Year were George, Janice and Rip Moore celebrating their 50 years of service to our community with Barnesville Marble. The Business Person of the Year should not only excel in the operation of his or her business but give time and energy back to the community. The nominee must be a chamber member.The deadline for nominations are Feb. 13 at 5 p.m. Forms are available online at www.barnesville.org or at the chamber office at 100 Commerce Place. The Barnesville-Lamar County Lions Club is seeking nominations for Volunteer of the Year. To nominate someone, mail a letter stating why the individual should receive the award to Carol Waters, 626 Greenwood St., Barnesville, 30204, by Thursday, Feb. 12.Lamar County Farm Bureau is seeking nominations for Farmer of the Year. Candidates may be nominated by bringing or mailing a letter of nomination to the Farm Bureau office on College Drive. Nomination letters should be received by Feb. 26 to be considered. Include in the letter reasons why the nominee is qualified for Farmer of the Year.The Career Woman of the Year Award is given by the Barnesville Rotary Club.Nominations should be sent to the Rotary Club at P.O.
