The lion’s share of the coverage

Augusta Chronicle As far as God’s creations go, Cecil the lion was about as beautiful and majestic as they get. But he wasn’t human. So why is the animal’s untimely killing in Zimbabwe by a Minnesota dentist on a big-game ‘hunt’ seeming to spark more outrage than the industrial-scale murder of unborn human babies and the depraved marketing of their organs? That is what seems to have happened since the Center for Medical Progress released its third and most gruesome undercover video of Planned Parenthood’s baby-parts brokerage. Mainstream media have pounced on the story of Cecil while downplaying footage of an actual dissection while a technician identifies the organs for transfer. Dr. Savita Ginde, a regional vice president for Planned Parenthood, tells an undercover activist posing as a tissue buyer that she prefersla carte sales to a flat rate while pointing out the intact kidneys and spinal column of a firsttrimester fetus. ’I think a per-item thing works a little better, just because we can see how much we can get out of it,’ she says. Previous stomachchurning videos show executives haggling over price to ‘come out a little ahead’ and joking darkly about wanting a Lamborghini. Much of the debate over these ghastly recordings has focused on whether Planned Parenthood’s trafficking of tissue constitutes sales, which are illegal under federal law, or compensation for costs associated with the ‘donation.’ By all means, let’s have that debate. The videos shown so far ‘“ more are said to be on the way ‘“ seem to depict an organization trying to maximize a profit off human flesh instead of one simply trying to recoup costs. But the overarching discussion should focus on the barbaric and dehumanizing process of abortion itself. Aside from the hypocrisy of empathizing more with one dead lion than the more than 300,000 unborn humans Planned Parenthood kills each year, the newest video blatantly exposes a leading liberal fallacy: that aborted fetuses are nothing more than ‘“ as one abortion proponent describes ‘“ ‘a cluster of undifferentiated cells the size of the period at the end of this sentence.’ Pure hogwash. The organs ‘“ human organs that Planned Parenthood is seen so dispassionately negotiating for ‘“ are not simply clusters of cells. Otherwise, Planned Parenthood and those it supplies in the abortion aftermarket would not be taking painstaking steps to harvest them from the shredded remains of the unborn. It’s time to move beyond the industry’s coolly detached phraseology and liberals’ language of minimization to call abortion what it is: murder. The gruesome videos prompted a Republican effort to block federal aid to Planned Parenthood, which receives more than $500 million annually in government aid, including some state funds. By law, Planned Parenthood cannot use taxpayers’ money for abortions except in pregnancies involving rape, incest or when the mother’s life is in danger. But a case certainly can be made that every tax dollar Planned Parenhood puts into other services frees up a dollar for routine abortions, which America’s No. 1 abortion provider appears to have turned into some sort of sick profit center. This week GOP leaders in the Senate said they will vote on the matter before their August recess. This page has called on Congress not only to defund the organization, but to criminally investigate its cash-for-parts arrangements as well. As for Walter Palmer, the dentist who killed the lion while on a guided safari, he’s received a barrage of negative comments on social media and even death threats. Based on the public’s muted reaction to the latest Planned Parenthood videos, Palmer probably would have faced less criticism by cutting the animal from its mother’s womb instead of shooting it a few weeks ago with a crossbow.
