Thomas Albert Howle obituary

Mr. Thomas Albert Howle, age 90 of Griffin, passed away Sunday, July 22, 2012 at Brightmoor Assisted Living. Mr. Howle was born May 26, 1922 son of the late Louis Howle and the late Nelle Hubbard Howle. He was a member of Griffin First United Methodist Church and the Men’s Bible Class. Tom Howle was 18 years old, a student at Auburn University and preparing for final exams. There he learned that the Japanese had bombed Pearl Harbor. When he heard about it, he walked off the campus without even taking his final exams, went to his hometown in Oxford, Ala., and joined the U.S. Navy where he served in the Pacific Theater during World War II patrolling the South Atlantic and Mediterranean Sea. Tom had the privilege of driving Gen. Jonathan Wainwright from a POW camp after being liberated. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Brightmoor Assisted Living and Brightmoor Hospice. Mr. Howle was preceded in death by his wife, Siddy Howle; and son, Tommy Howle. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Janie and Barry Clark of Griffin, Nancy and Robbie Tenney of Barnesville; daughter-in-law, Terriann Howle of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Nathan Howle, Molly Howle, Beth Hobbs, Ben Hobbs, Lyndsey Tenney and Mary Ashley Tenney and brother and sister-in-law, David and Carole Howle of Columbus, Ga. Nieces, nephews and other family also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Thomas Albert Howle will be held Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at 2 p.m. at the Griffin First United Methodist Church. Rev. Kevin Lobello and Rev. David Howle will officiate. Interment will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit the family one hour prior to the service in the church welcome center. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Men’s Bible Class, Griffin First United Methodist Church, 1401 Maple Dr., Griffin, Ga., 30224 in memory of Mr. Howle.
