Thomas Jefferson Rusk Jr.

Mr. Thomas Jefferson Rusk, Jr., age 98, of the Redbone Community in Barnesville, passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2016, in a Blairsville Healthcare Facility. Mr. Tom was born August 27, 1917 in Cherokee County, son of the late Thomas Jefferson Rusk, Sr and Emma Rosella Rusk. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a staff sergeant in the Army-Air Corp in Northern Africa and Italy. After the war he returned to the family farm and ran a dairy for many years. Mr. Tom enjoyed hunting, fishing and reading. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Hampton Rusk; brothers, Fred Rusk, James Rusk and William Rusk; sisters, Floy Holloway, Edna Rusk, Ellen Davis, Wyolene Sparkman, Mary Wayne and Elizabeth Skinner. Survivors include his sister, Tommy Rose Daley of Baker, Oregon; great nephew, Neal (Tammy) Rusk; nephew and his wife, Jerry (Barbara) Rusk, all of Blairsville; nieces, Jane Sparkman (Horace) Pippin of Culloden and Jean Sparkman (Sam) Smith of Comer; stepson, Mike Hampton and family of Barnesville; and other nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 Friday at Greenwood Cemetery with Horace Pippin officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 until 2:00 before the service. The family respectfully requests that flowers be omitted and contributions be made in memory of Mr. Thomas Jefferson Rusk, Jr. to the Barnesville Library, 401 Thomaston St., Barnesville GA 30204.
