Thomaston Housing Authority director, spouse found guilty

The executive director of the Thomaston Housing Authority and her husband of have been convicted and will be sentenced on federal charges of conspiring to steal government money. The U.S. Attorney’s Office said THA executive director Sherry Darlene McDaniel 43, and her husband, Lance McDaniel, 57, were indicted in July and found guilty after a weeklong jury trial in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Georgia. Darlene McDaniel was accused of honoring contracts with Steve Wayne Williams, a painting contractor who employed her husband full-time working for the housing authority without any review or authorization from authority directors, prosecutors said. The jury acquitted the McDaniels of charges of theft and embezzlement. Federal records show charges were dismissed earlier this month against Williams due to lack of evidence.
