Three people were airlifted to tram centers in metro Atlanta after a wanted man fled from authorities and crashed his car into a truck stopped at the scene of another accident. The car subsequently caught fire.From Spalding sheriff Wendell Beam:On January 5, 2015 at 10:24 a.m., Spalding County Deputies attempted to stop a car operated by Jason Martin, age 40, of Griffin. Martin was wanted on a warrant for Violation of Parole (originally charged with Burglary). Martin failed to stop for the deputies and a car chase ensued. It traveled several streets from Meriwether Street to Ellis Road. Martin travelled west on Ellis Road and when he approached the intersection of Henry Jackson Road he struck a box truck which was stopped on West Ellis Road. The truck was stopped due to an unrelated accident being investigated by the Georgia State Patrol.Following the collision Martins car, a black 2000 Gran Prix, caught fire in the engine area. Deputies pulled the occupants from that vehicle while the Georgia State Patrol and Code Enforcement extinguished the fire.There were a total of 5 people in Martin’s vehicle. Three of the occupants were airlifted to Atlanta area hospitals and Martin was transported by ambulance to the Spalding Regional Hospital. The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the accident and charges are pending against Martin.
