Three jailed after high speed chase

Three people were arrested following a high speed chase that roared southbound on Ga. Hwy. 7, into downtown Barnesville and finally ended on Five Points Road Friday. Griffin police first took notice of the cream colored Ford Escape when those inside, two males and a female, threw out security devices from stolen merchandise that were still beeping near a Griffin retail store. They attempted to stop the car and the chase ensued southbound on the four-lane. The driver, tailed by multiple police units, drove up Atlanta Street, went west on Zebulon Street, out Aldora Street and onto Hwy. 18 West. He then turned onto Five Points Road where officers were able to box him in and safely end the pursuit. No pit maneuver was attempted because initial reports indicated there was a child in the vehicle. That turned out to be the female ducking down in her seat and no child was located in the SUV. Two allegedly stolen chainsaws were found in the Escape along with other items. Unites involved in the chase included Griffin P.D., LCSO, Spalding S.O., Barnesville P.D., Georgia State Patrol and Pike S.O. More to follow…
