Three killed in auto, train crash identified

Three people were killed Wednesday evening when a train struck a car off Hwy. 41 in Monroe County.

At approximately 6:20pm this evening, a passenger vehicle (Ford Flex) was struck by a train at a private crossing near the intersection of Goodwyne Road and Collier Road.

Preliminary investigation shows that the Flex became stuck on the tracks and a separate individual was attempting to help the two passengers out of the vehicle when the vehicle was struck by a Norfolk Southern train. All three individuals were pronounced deceased at the scene.

The passengers of the Flex are identified as Shirley Treadwell (93 years of age) and Debra Ruth Hall (66 years of age). The individual attempting to help the passengers is identified as Chris Burkett (47 years of age). All three are from Monroe County.
