Three Lamar teams host playoffs today

Green The athletic venues of Lamar County Schools will be abuzz today with GHSA state tournament action as the Diamond Trojan baseball team and Lady Trojan and Trojan soccer teams all host first round games. The Diamond Trojans (18-6), second seed from Region 4-AA, will host the Cook Hornets (17-8), the third seed from Region 1-AA. This will be the first home post season appearance for the Lamar baseball team since 2006 when they hosted and lost to Dublin in the first round. The first game of the best of three series will begin at four o’clock at Aldora Field. Game two will follow 30 minutes after the completion of game one. A third game, if necessary, will be played Saturday at one o’clock. The series winner advance to the second round to take on either Westside Augusta or Metter. The Lamar County soccer teams will host Fitzgerald beginning with the girls match at 5:30 at Trojan Field. The boys match will follow at 7:30. This is the first ever home state tournament matches for Lamar County. The Lady Trojans (9-6-1), the second seed from Region 4-AA, will face a Lady Hurricane team that finished the regular season as the third seed from Region 1-AA at 10-6-1. The Trojans (7-8) are also seeded second from Region 4-AA and take on Region 1-AA’s third seeded Hurricanes (9-7). The winner of the girls match will face either Dublin or Atkinson County in the second round while the boys match winner advances to take on either Westside Augusta or Toombs County. Admission to the baseball doubleheader is $7 while admission to the soccer matches is $10.
