Timber thinning to begin on GSC property

Equipment has been moved onto property owned by Gordon State College that will be used to harvest pine trees on acreage bound by Honeysuckle Lane, Holmes Street, U.S. Highway 41 and Forsyth Street, east of the main campus area. The purpose of the harvest is to remove diseased and suppressed pine trees which will create space for healthier pines. Only pines will be removed from the acreage, hardwoods will remain uncut except for those blocking two access points, one on Honeysuckle and the other on Holmes, to the area. Work on the property is estimated to take two to three weeks depending on the weather. While the work is under way, the walking track and the challenge course will remain closed.
