Traveling Vietnam Wall in Griffin

A traveling replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., is coming to the Wyomia Tyus Olympic Park Memorial Day weekend, from Friday, May 27 until Monday, May 30. Wyomia Tyus Olympic Park is located at 301 Cowan Road, between Vineyard and McIntosh Roads in northwest Griffin. The replication was last seen in Griffin 10 years ago. The Dignity Memorial Vietnam Wall is a traveling, three-quarter scale replica of the original. It stands eight feet high and is 240 feet long. The names of more than 58,000 Americans who died or are missing in Vietnam are inscribed on it. It went on display for the first time in Tyler, Texas in October of 1984. Two configurations now travel the USA from April through November, spending about a week at each site making ten to 14 weekend stops in communities served by Dignity Memorial providers. Since its inception, the traveling monument has been displayed in more than 200 cities across the country.
