Trojan track teams rack up firsts

By Ken K. Green The Trojan track and field team rode 12 first place finishes to win another meet, defeating Griffin, Pike County and Eagle’s Landing here last week. Sidarius Gotell (100 meter), Antwan Wallace (200m), Brandon Higdon (400m), Lawrence Austin (110m hurdles and 300m hurdles), Quay Searcy (long jump, high jump and triple jump), Kyler Selsor (pole vault), Frederick Walker (shot put) and Jason Caslin (discus) all won individual events while Relay Team A (Wallace, Gotell, Lawrence Austin and Lance Austin) won the 4x100m. Second place finishers for the Trojans included Wallace (100m), Nic Hardin (300m hurdles), Thomas Inscoe (pole vault) and Jeremy Fletcher (long jump) in individual events. Relay Team A was second in the 4x400m while Relay Team B (Higdon, Searcy, Fletcher and Ray Lyons) finished second in the 4x100m. Coming in third were Walker (discus), Lance Austin (200m and triple jump), Marcus Brown (800m) and Alex Gardner (shot put). Others scoring points were Brown (400m), Hardin (high jump), Patrick Powers (800m and 1,600m), Tyler Treadwell (1,600m), Quentin Frazier (110m hurdles) and Relay Team B (4x400m). Also taking part were Lyons (200m), Gotell (200m), Hardin (400m), Frazier (300m hurdles), Jermarcus Walker (400m), Major Callaway (800m), Noah Eure (800m), Lawrence Austin (triple jump), Maurice Bloodser (triple jump), Montavious Rucker (shot put), Rashad Johnson (shot put), Akeem Colquitt (discus) and Chris Bittner (discus). Maggie Varner was the lone Lady Trojan with a first place finish, winning the shot put. She also earned points in the discus. Coming in second place for the Lamar girls were Tamara Watts (100m), Kenesia Sullivan (100m hurdles) and Briana Searcy (high jump) in individual events and the relay team of Searcy, Watts, Precious Roach-Sharpe and Jessica Caslin in the 4x100m. Searcy (200m) and Deandre Goggans (400m) finished third. Watts (long jump), Caslin (100m and 200m), Sullivan (300m hurdles), Chelsea Bentley (400m and long jump), Lane Hammond (800m), Libby Templeton (1,600m) and the relay team (4x400m) also scored points. Searcy and Goggans also competed in the long jump.
