Trojan victimize Manchester

The Trojans hosted the Manchester Blue Devils — a Region 5-AA opponent — on Tuesday afternoon, 4/21, at Aldora Field. Just when you thought that spring had returned, after a couple of days of pleasant weather, and sunshine — the cool, damp, and downright-chilly-stuff returned once again. But, the inclement weather did not dampen the enthusiasm of the coaches, players, and fans attending the game. The Trojans rewarded their fans, for braving the elements, by victimizing their opponents from Meriweather Co. by a score of 11-3. The region win assured the Trojans of a spot in the upcoming state playoffs at the end of the regular season of play. T.J. English started on the mound for the Trojans and pitched through 6-innings of play. Marc English — Cousin of T.J. — came on in the top of the 7th to close the game out with his submarine style of pitching, in relief. The former English — T.J. — struckout 2-Manchester hitters in the game, while his defense played sound defense behind him, by only committing 1-error. Also, there were a couple of defensive web-gems by Bailey Thompson at 3rd, and by Trent Nix in centerfield. Thompson knocked-down a ‘lasershot’ at the ‘hot’ corner, hustled to pickup the baseball, and threw the runner out at first base by an eyelash. Nix made a diving-catch on a shallow fly ball to centerfield, while robbing a Blue Devil hitter of a sure base hit. Both defensive plays seemed to fire their Trojan teammates up in keeping the Blue Devil Team from staging a rally. Offensively, Blane Parker (2-2; triple), Trent Nix (2-3), Calvin Adams (1-3; double), Michael Sneed (1-4; double), & Devin Couch (1-3) stood-out for the Trojans at the plate. The Trojans will resume action on Friday, 4/24, at Aldora Field in a game set to start at 6:00 p.m., when they host the Heard Co. Braves. Friday night will be ‘Senior Night’ at Aldora Field, as the Dugout Club will honor Blane Parker & Calvin Adams for playing 4-years of Trojan Baseball. The seniors and their parents will be recognized in a pregame ceremony between 5:30 and 6:00 p.m. A good turnout for the game is expected to be on-hand to support the Trojans.
