By Walter GeigerThe Lamar County Trojans are regrouping and preparing for region competition after finishing fifth in the Trojan Cup tournament that closed out with action here Saturday. Lamar lost 3-1 to Locust Grove in their final tourney match Saturday. Dawson Davis got the lone goal for LC.Upson-Lee beat Northside Warner-Robins in a PK shootout 3-2 to win the boys title game.The order of finish (records) in the tourney was: 1: Upson-Lee (3-0); 2: Northside Warner Robins (2-1); 3: Locust Grove (2-1); 4: Harris Co. (2-1); 5: Lamar Co. (1-2); 6: Central-Carrollton (1-2); 7: Monticello (1-2); and 8: East Laurens (0-3).In non-tournament action, the Trojans split two games before fall break.On Tuesday, they lost 6-3 at Monticello. Javier Sanchez had two goals for LC while Bryce Garner added one.On Thursday, Lamar toppled Tattnall Square 6-0. Garner and Dawson Davis had two goals each while Chandler Francis and Dylan Deese had one apiece. Braden Moore had seven saves in goal in the shutout.LC hosts Spencer Feb. 28 and travels to Callaway on March 3.The Lady Trojans went 1-2 in Trojan Cup action to finish sixth among eight teams.Tournament action finished Saturday with Lamar falling to Locust Grove 9-0.’We came out flat against a good team and found ourselves in a hole quickly. The one bright spot from this game is we can see key weaknesses in our style of play that we can correct prior to region competition. We will work on those over fall break and should be ready to go when we play Spencer Feb. 28,’ coach Wayne Calvert said.Harris County beat Upson-Lee 7-1 in the final to win the girls side of the Trojan Cup. The order of finish (records) was: 1: Harris Co. (3-0); 2: Upson-Lee (2-1); 3: East Laurens (2-1); 4: Locust Grove (2-1); 5: Central-Carrollton (1-2); 6: Lamar Co. (1-2); 7: Northside Warner Robins (1-2); and 8: Monticello (0-3).In non-tournament action, the Lady Trojans notched two wins last week.On Tuesday they went to Monticello and handed the Lady Hurricanes a 10-0 loss.Hailey Hadsell had five goals while Becky Taylor and Rachel Patterson had two goals each. Kayleigh Swanson added one goal.On Thursday, LC hosted Tattnall Square Academy and won 7-1.Hadsell and Patterson each had three goals while Margaret Henry added one.
