Trojans are Region 4AA champs

The third time was a charm for Lamar County as the Trojans bested Northeast Macon on their own court Saturday night 77-71 to claim the Region 4AA tournament championship. Lamar, now 25-3 and winners of 13 straight, had lost two games to the Raiders during the regular season but stepped it up and won the most important meeting between the two schools so far this year. Northeast, which came into the game ranked 6th in the state in the GACA coaches’ poll and 8th in the AJC writers’ poll and riding an 18-game winning streak, fell to 22-3. The Trojans’ Region 4AA player of the year Camden Foster was held to just ten points in the game but Terrance Childs picked up the slack scoring 18. Denarius Rutherford had 13 and freshman Quay Searcy added 13 off the bench.
