Trojans begin playoff quest

The top-ranked Trojans closed out regular season play Friday night with a 53-0 rout of Crawford County in Roberta. Lamar finished undefeated at 10-0. Lamar has not lost a regular season game since Oct. 29, 2009. They are 22-1-1 since head coach Franklin Stephens took the helm prior to the 2012 season. The Trojans open postseason play Friday night when they host the Metter Tigers (7-3) Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Trojan Field. The Tigers, under coach Mike West, are the fourth seed from Region 2-AA after finishing behind Benedictine, Vidalia and Bryan County. They lost to those three teams by a combined score of 124-47. The Trojans are red hot, having scored a school record 450 points over the 10-game regular season. The Trojans’ average margin of victory this season has been 36 points. As a result, many of the Lamar starters have less wear and tear on their bodies than those on many other teams in postseason play because they have generally been pulled for at least the last quarter.
