Trojans fall 14-7

There was nothing but tears and a runner-up trophy for the Lamar County Trojans Saturday at the Dome they waited generations to reach. Lamar was outplayed and lost 14-7 to the Lovett Lions. After the game Trojan head coach Franklin Stephens took responsibility for the heartbreaking loss. ”i didn’t have you guys ready to play and I didn’t have our coaches ready to coach. That’s on me,” Stephens told his team, many of whom were wiping away tears. Stephens was apparently referencing the four or five illegal substitution penalties his team endured when it could not get the correct personnel groups on the field. The Trojans were outmatched along both lines of scrimmage and Lovett took away the edge game which had been Lamar’s bread and butter all season. Once their speed was negated, the Trojans were just not up for a smash mouth, win-it-in-the trenches battle. Still, they fought valiantly but just could not make it happen. It was a heartbreaking loss for a a huge Trojan crowd. Observers said Lamar brought the most fans to the Dome of any team in the finals.
