Trojans gunning for title

By Walter Geiger The Lamar County Trojans kick off the 2013 high school football season Friday night when they play host to the Spalding Jaguars in the annual Border War. The teams tee it up at 7:30 p.m. at Trojan Field. Having finished just short of a state title game berth last season and with a roster slap full of allstate caliber players, the Trojans are gunning for Lamar’s first ever state championship. Head coach Franklin Stephens is no stranger to the Georgia Dome, having participated in and won multiple title games. The Trojans are ranked second in the AJC Class AA preseason poll – one rung behind Calhoun which knocked them out of the playoffs last year. Next week, the Trojans travel to Eagles Landing followed by a trip to Zebulon for the annual Battle of Potato Creek September 13. Then the region grind begins with games against Taylor Co., at NE Macon, Monticello, Putnam Co., at Bleckley Co., Macon Co., and at Crawford Co. As always The Herald Gazette will cover the team extensively with Ken Green’s reporting in print and realtime scoring from all games online at barnesville.com for subscribers.
