Trojans in command of region race

By Walter Geiger The Trojans rolled into Cochran Friday for what was billed as a tough road test against the Bleckley County Royals. Instead it was another rout. Lamar put up 429 rushing yards and held Bleckley to 160 in a 44-7 blowout. Even questionable officiating could not help the Royals. With a running clock in the fourth quarter, the Trojan JV rammed the ball down the Bleckley defense’s throat for a final score that added insult to injury. Lamar (8-0, 5-0) is alone at the top of the Region 4-AA standings. Bleckley County and Macon County follow at 4-1. Lamar hosts Macon County’s Bulldogs this Friday night at Trojan Field. They close out the regular season with a gimme game in Roberta Nov. 8 against the winless Eagles who have scored only 27 points in five region contests. It appears Lamar’s first round playoff game will find the loser of this week’s Metter-Bryan County game coming to Trojan Field Nov. 15. Bryan County is coached by former Lamar head coach Mark Wilson who has rejuvenated the long dormant program in Pembroke.
