GreenTrojan Field will be the place to be for GHSA Class AA Elite 8 soccer action this week as the Trojans and Lady Trojans will host quarterfinal round matches.The Lamar boys (13-3), coming off a thrilling 2-1 second round win over Fitzgerald here Tuesday, will play Wesleyan (11-8-1) Friday at 6:30. The Lamar girls (14-3-1) shut out Westside Augusta 5-0 Wednesday and will take on Westminster 9-6-3) at 12 noon Saturday. Lamar’s opponents are the third seeds, respectively, from 6-AA, arguably the strongest soccer region in the state in AA. The Wolves, from Peachtree Corners, are the ninth ranked boys team according to EUROSPORTscoreboard.com while the same soccer website ranks the Lady Wildcats as the third best girls team. The two open enrollment private school play their regular season games against other private and larger classification schools from the metro-Atlanta area. Wesleyan’s boys wins in the state tournament have come against Oglethorpe County, 5-0, and Bremen, 6-0, while the Westminster girls have beaten Union County, 8-0, and Jordan, 10-0.
