Trojans prepping, plan midnight scrimmage July 31

By Walter Geiger After a summer of organized workouts and camps, the Lamar County Trojans and coaches are counting down the days until football starts in earnest. Trojan players have participated in quarterback/ wide receiver camps, offensive line camps, defensive camps and a wing T camp in Waycross The annual Ultimate Trojan Test for high school and middle school players is this week and there is another camp at Upson-Lee Thursday. The varsity Trojans begin practice next Monday, July 27. There will not be a Soap Game this year as the Trojans have two scrimmages after opting out of spring practice. LC will host a midnight scrimmage on Friday, July 31 at Trojan Field and collect laundry detergent for admission. Saturday at 12:01 a.m. is the earliest high schools can practice in pads under GHSA rules. The Trojans host Northside Columbus in their first scrimmage August 7. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. at Trojan Field. LC will scrimmage at Spalding County August 13 at 7 p.m. Regular season action kicks off August 21 when LC travels to Ed Defore Stadium in Macon to take on Howard High at 7:30 p.m.
