Trojans’ season ends on a sour note

Our apologizes to all those who were looking for realtime scoring from the game on Phone lines were down near our server center. The Lamar County Trojans were held scoreless in the second half as they dropped a 22-14 decision to the MCA Bucs here Friday night. The loss eliminated Lamar from the Class AA playoffs. Lamar got on the board first when Maurice Bloodser hit Jarvis Merritt with a 15-yard first period touchdown pass. Tyler Scandrett’s PAT was true to make it 7-0. MCA answered in the second quarter with a 60-yard TD run by Ben Rogers. Kolt Weaver’s PAT knotted the score at 7-7. Lamar’s Quay Searcy returned the ensuing kickoff 80 yards for a TD and Scandrett added the PAT to make it 14-7. Just under a minute later, MCA quarterback Kion Button went 65 yards for a score. Weaver’s PAT tied the game at 14-14 at the half. After a scoreless third period, MCA tackled Bloodser in the endzone for a safety to make it 16-14. The safety staggered the Trojans moments after a heroic stand by the Lamar defense inside their own 1. MCA put the game on ice when Jojo Wynn scored on a 10-yard run. The PAT failed. The second consecutive first round playoff loss was particularly painful for the Lamar seniors, many of whom left the field in tears. Attendance at Trojan Field was disappointing with the home stands nowhere near full.
