Trojans sweep Greene; GC wins

he Diamond Trojan clinched fourth place in Region 4AA and a berth in the state playoffs with a double header sweep of Greene County at Aldora Field Tuesday. Lamar won both games in mercy rule fashion by identical 16-1 scores. The offensive highlight of the day was an inside the park grand slam home run by freshman Jacob Platt. Morgan Ford and Austin Donley got complete game wins on the mound in the twinbill. Lamar (15-9, 9-6) will host Monticello Friday at 5:55 p.m. and close out the regular season Saturday at 12 noon entertaining Central of Carrollton. Gordon College also got a huge win Tuesday holding off Middle Georgia 4-3 in Cochran to increase their first place lead in the conference over Georgia Perimeter, who plays South Georgia today, to a full game. The Highlanders cruised to a 4-0 lead behind seven shutout innings from Casey Shiver but the Warriors plated three runs in the bottom of the ninth before Ben Prestwood put out the fire with runners at second and third to earn the save. NJCAA player of the week Zach Lowery hit his eighth homer of the season for Gordon. The Highlanders and Warriors continue their series this weekend here in Barnesville with a single game Friday at three o’clock and a Saturday double header beginning at 2 p.m.
