Trojans tame Jags in scrimmage

The Lamar County Trojans edged out the Spalding Jaguars 26-19 in a preseason scrimmage Thursday night at Trojan Field. The starters played into the third quarter with the backups playing thereafter. Noah Eure got Lamar on the board first with a four-yard TD run after a botched punt by the Jags which was recovered by Malik Banks. The PAT by Dawson Davis was good Lamar scored again on a rifle shot, 10-yard TD pass from quarterback L.J. Smith to Rondez Fletcher. The PAT failed. Spalding scored on a 15-yard TD pass but the two-point PAT try was broken up by Lamar’s Noah Hood. Fletcher then added another TD on a four-yard run. Chandler Francis’ PAT made it 20-6. The Jags scored on another pass and again failed on the two-point PAT and it was 20-12. When the JV teams hit the field, Jaylund Harris took the LC JV’s second snap 70-yards for a TD. The PAT was good and Lamar led 26-12. Spalding got a late score and PAT to cut it to 26-19 and the Jags were on another drive late to win the game when Michael Tenney got a tackle on the last play. Lamar opens regular season play next Friday when the Howard Huskies come to Trojan Field. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
