Trojans top Rabun County 74-65

Damien Battle knocked down 16 points to lead the Lamar County Trojans to a 74-65 win over Rabun County in the first round of the Class AA state tournament Friday night at the LCCHS gym. Coach Gregory Freeman’s team took an early lead which they never relinquished. Lamar led 20-15 after one, 33-30 at the half and 47-43 after three periods of play. Also in double figures for the Trojans were Camden Foster with 14, Adrian Butler with 13, Kendrick Cheeves with 12 and Maurice Bloodser with 11. Other Lamar scorers were Jadarius McCalla (5) and Lekevious Lyons (1). The Trojans move on to a second round game Tuesday night. Their opponent will likely be top-ranked Greater Atlanta Christian. The Spartans were 27-1 going into tonight’s 7 p.m. first round tilt against Temple. Lamar would travel if GAC is the opponent. Surprisingly, Friday night’s game did not draw a packed house. Lamar held Rabun’s super sophomore Tanner Plemmons to a quiet 22 points. Corey Page added 18 more for the Wildcats.
