The Lamar County Trojans were in Butler Friday night to take on the Taylor County Vikings in the region opener and struggled mightily in the first half. FIRST HALF NOTES: Lamar came out flat and had at least 7 false start penalties in the first half. Two point PAT failed after bad snap. 3:20 3rd. qtr.: Lamar 15 Taylor 0: Lance Austin 11-yd. TD run. Scandrett PAT failed. KEY PLAY: Fumble recovery by Ray Lyons at the Viking 11 yard line. FINAL: 15-0. SUMMARY: The Trojans came alive in the third period after an 80-yard TD run was called back due to an inadvertent whistle by an official. The entire game was bizarre. There was one timeout that went over three minutes where it appeared the officials just let the Taylor County squad catch its breath and collect themselves. Lamar played sloppily much of the game but the Vikings never really mounted a threat. Lamar appeared somewhat stale after its off week.
