Trump taps David Lyons for U.S. Marshal

President Donald Trump has nominated former Lamar County resident David L. Lyons of Savannah for the post of U.S. Marshal for the southern district of Georgia. A veteran of both the Army and Navy, Lyons served as deputy director of the local EMA here from 1997-2000. He was chief of the Zebulon police department from 2000-2002. Lyons, who has over 40 years in law enforcement, recently retired after 15 years as chief of the Garden City PD. Monroe County sheriff John Cary Bittick was nominated as Marshal for the middle district of Georgia. He has served as sheriff in Monroe County for 35 years. Both nominees are expected to receive legislative confirmation with little opposition.
