Tubers accosted on Ocmulgee

A father and son who had been tubing on the Ocmulgee River near Pope’s Ferry in Monroe County were accosted and beaten Sunday. The full release from Allison Selman-Willis, PIO for the Monroe S.O. follows: A Macon man was injured in an altercation yesterday, July 17, 2011 in Monroe County. The altercation happened around 6 p.m. at Pope’s Ferry on the Ocmulgee River where 43 year old Eddie Ethridge and his 15 year old son had been tubing. A preliminary investigation indicates that Mr. Ethridge was involved in a physical altercation with a man who struck Mr. Ethridge and his son with his fists. It does not appear that Mr. Ethridge was attacked by more than one person. Mr. Ethridge was transported by ambulance to the Medical Center of Central Georgia where he is listed in stable condition. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation into the incident.
