Turf to court: Trojans take down MP

Green One day after playing in Lamar County’s heartbreaking 21-14 football loss to Calhoun in the GHSA Class AA state semi-finals Quay Searcy, Jeremy Fletcher and Nick Harden combined for 15 points in limited action to help the Trojan basketball team to a 65-59 season opening win over Mary Persons. Lamar trailed the Bulldogs by nine points at the half but outscored MP 35-20 in the second half behind a team high 16 points from Paul Ponder for the win. Shondarius Taylor (9), Obtavious Hampton (9), Quay Searcy (8), Hardricus McClendon (7), Nick Harden (4), Tedarius Harris (4), Jeremy Fletcher (3) and Jalen Perdue (1). also scored for the Trojans. The Lady Trojans fell behind by 11 in the first quarter and never could recover as they fell to the Lady Dawgs 62-41. Kengi Sullivan led Lamar in scoring with 13 points, four rebounds and four steals. Alexandria World was selected as the MAXPREP player of the game based on her outstanding rebounding performance. The junior grabbed nine total rebounds and also scored five points, made two assists and had one steal. A’Ja Johnson added nine points, five rebounds and three assists.
