Doug Tuttle, chief operating officer of United Bank, retired June 30 and was honored July 25 at a reception at the Barnesville office.Family, staff, bank officers and directors and colleagues, including Georgian Bankers Association (GBA) president Joe Brannen, were on hand to wish him well.Having joined the bank in 1977, Doug served in an array of leadership roles including assistant vice president, vice president, senior loan officer, president and was the first chief operating officer. He will continue to serve on the bank’s profit sharing, trust and investment and credit committees and on the boards of both United Bank and United Bank Corporation.A member of the Gridiron Secret Society, Doug and his wife, Lisa Milam Tuttle, are members of First United Methodist Church in Barnesville. Doug has served his church as chairman of the board of trustees and has been active in the chamber of commerce and industrial development authority which he chaired for a time.Throughout his career, Doug has been a member of GBA and has served on its insurance trust board for 16 years.He helped oversee growth that took the bank from two small offices in 1977 to a regional financial powerhouse with 16 offices and over $1 billion in total assets.’Doug has been an invaluable mentor to our younger employees and a wise counselor to our senior leadership team,’ bank founder Joe Edwards said.Doug’s father, Dr. Jack Tuttle of Barnesville, was an organizer of Lamar State Bank which, along with the Bank of Zebulon, became United Bank in 1986.Both of Doug and Lisa’s sons have gone into banking careers as well.Douglas Tuttle is vice president at Community & Southern bank.He and his wife, the former Mary Catherine Brutz of Barnesville, live in Atlanta.William Tuttle follows in his dad’s footsteps at United Bank, working out of the Zebulon office.He currently manages the largest loan portfolio in the entire United Bank operation. William and his wife, Brandy, live in Barnesville and are expecting their first child in September.
