Four people, including two young children, suffered serious injuries in a crash Wednesday morning on Hwy. 36 West near its intersection with Berry Road. According to witnesses, the female driver of a white, subcompact car eastbound on Hwy. 36 tired of waiting behind another vehicle turning left onto Berry Road, pulled into the westbound lane and was struck head-on by a tractor-trailer rig just before 9:30 a.m. The car was heavily damaged. The driver was pinned in and had to be cut out of the vehicle. She suffered crushing injuries to her lower extremities. An adult and a child were ejected, indicating the child was not properly restrained. Another child was injured. The truck driver was shaken but unhurt. Ambulances took the injured to hospitals in Macon and Thomaston. The highway was finally reopened just after 1 p.m. More to follow…..
