Two local events are scheduled to honor local veterans Monday.The Gordon State College Veterans Club will host a Remembrance Day National Roll Call ceremony Sunday. This event, which will be held at 2 p.m. on Lambdin Green, is a way for Gordon student veterans to come together with faculty, staff and other students, and the community to honor and memorialize those who have served, are serving and those who have fallen in service to their country.Speakers will include Gordon State College President Max Burns (Army); faculty member, Gary Cox (Air Force); Gordon State student and president of the Veteran’s Club, Darryll Kipp (Navy); and alumni, Alan Imes (Army), and Paul Stinson (Army). The public is invited to attend.Veterans Day observance at memorial Monday:The annual Veterans Day celebration has been pushed back a day to Monday, November 12 because the holiday fell on a Sunday, according to Junior Hamrick, commander of the local VFW post.Ceremonies will begin at 11 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial at the Barnesville-Lamar County Library. The program will feature an honor guard, music, an honor roll of vets who have died during the previous year and a 21-gun salute to those departed servicemen and women. The guest speaker for the event will be Patsy Cates. Cates is the past president of the State VFW Ladies Auxiliary.Following the ceremony, the local auxiliary will host a lunch at the VFW Post located at 361 Old Hwy. 41 North.
