An extremely fortunate driver found himself suffering only a broken leg after hitting a bridge abutment on Old Zebulon Rd. at Potato Creek Friday afternoon. The unidentified white male driver was traveling west on Old Zebulon at a very high rate of speed when he lost control of his minivan in a sharp curve and plowed into the guardrail on the south side of the road. He uprooted all the railing and launched it into the middle of the bridge before hitting the abutment. It sent him flying backwards off into the ditch on the north sir of the road. The driver’s door of the van was found floating in the creek. The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, miraculously escaped with no more than his fracture – much to the amazement of law enforcement and rescue personnel on the scene.
