UPDATE: Wide power outage impacts primary school

Statements from Southern Rivers Energy and school superintendent Dr. Bill Truby: Erin Cook, SRE: More calls have come in, we now have roughly 8000 members without power. High winds, lightning and fallen trees are the main causes and due to the extremely high call volume, members are experiencing busy signals. We are enlisting the help of additional crews to deal with the massive number of outages and restore power as quickly as possible. UPDATE: At 7:40 a.m., the outage number was down to 6650, Cook reported. Dr. Truby: This message is of particular importance to families with children in our primary school. The storm from yesterday has knocked out the power in the Primary School. We will have the building open today for school; however, we will be making adjustments in the students’ location throughout the day in order to make sure that they are taken care of. If this arrangement is not helpful to you and you have other ways to care for your primary school children today, please exercise those options. When power is restored, we will resume our regular routines. If you are personally experiencing challenges due to the storm, please take your time in getting the children to school. Safety First! School Attendance will not affect those directly affected by the storm. Once again, this emergency announcement is mostly for our primary school folks. The building will be open today, but we will make adjustments with the students until power is restored. If you have other options for your primary school children please exercise those options.
