Veteran police officer arrested by GBI

A 20-year veteran of the Thomaston Police Departmet has been arrested by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Ulysses Clark was jailed for making false statements and violating his oath of office. GBI investigators said that Clark drew scrutiny for allegedly signing a certificate of inspection for a trailer that he did not physically examine. The GBI also indicated Clark was on duty when he signed the inspection. Investigators said the trailer was worth between $10,000 and $20,000 and had been previously been reported stolen in Spalding County. The trailer had been entered into both Georgia’s and the National Crime Information Centers prior to the trailer being presented for inspection. Subsequently, Clark allegedly made false statements to the local agency investigating the theft of the stolen trailer, saying he had inspected the trailer and searched the crime information centers before signing the certificate. Clark was arrested and charged Monday afternoon. The GBI is continuing its investigation. Clark remains in the Upson County Jail. -WKEU
