Volunteers gearing up for Great Day of Service

Over 500 volunteers are expected to don work clothes and gloves for the Great Day of Service which is set for Saturday, May 12 here. The event was founded by the First United Methodist Church of Barnesville and has grown exponentially since its inception. A partial list of this year’s projects includes painting the caboose at the Depot and restoration work at the Old Jail Museum, Activity Center, Senior Citizens’ Center, Health Department, Barnesville Library and the Women’s Clubhouse. Chairman Mark Stone says Chick-fil-A and Truett’s Grill of Griffin have joined other supporters of the event. Other supporters are First Baptist Church, Kiwanis Club, Rotary Club, Southern Rivers Energy’s Operation Roundup, State Farm Insurance and United Bank. The GDOS begins at 8 a.m. May 12 at Lamar County Middle School on Burnette Road. For more information or to volunteer, contact Stone at 770-358-6939.
