Volunteers needed to pressure wash downtown in preparation for Buggy Days

City councilmen Bill Claxton and Joe Sims are looking for volunteers and donations of supplies to pressure wash downtown Barnesville this weekend in preparation for Buggy Days.

“The downtown streetscape was installed 22 years ago and, to my knowledge, has never had a deep cleaning with any type of pressure washing. With the facade grants being issued to seven store owners already, our downtown area will still appear dirty and dingy unless the curbing and sidewalks are cleaned. With our city crews already stretched to the max, I’ve decided to gather volunteers to clean as much of our downtown area as possible before Buggy Days,” Claxton said.

Volunteers are asked to gather at the Depot Saturday and Sunday mornings, Aug. 20-21 at 8 a.m. to be assigned a section of downtown. Supplies are also needed including bottled water, snacks, bleach, sprayers for bleach, gas, water hoses, etc. Large capacity portable water tanks to which hoses can be attached would be a big help.

“We need volunteers to pressure wash but, if they don’t have the time themselves but do have a pressure washer, we would love to use their machine. If they have time but not a washer we can still use them,” Claxton said.

To volunteer or donate call or text Claxton at 770.584.2234 or Sims at 770.468.6736. The work will go on rain or shine.
