Vote today. Polls open 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Lamar County voters go to the polls today to cast ballots in the General Primary and there are some big decisions to be made. Polling places throughout the county will be open from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Voters countywide will decide whether to continue the one percent local option sales tax. SPLOST is projected to raise $14,274,000 over its six-year lifespan.

Of those funds, Lamar County will receive just over $8.2 million while Barnesville will take in just under $5.4 million. Milner will receive $576,000 while Aldora will get $144,000.

In Barnesville, voters will decide whether package and by the drink alcohol sales will be allowed on Sundays from noon until 11:30 p.m.

In Milner, voters will choose between Rickey Fallings and Tonya Grammer to fill the final empty slot on the city council.

If early voting is an indication, voter interest in these decisions has been tepid at best. Over the three week early voting period that ended Friday, elections supervisor Anita Red and her staff processed a total of only 414 early ballots. About half the absentee ballots distributed had been returned at press time Monday.
