Today will determine two city elections and a countywide special election that could give senior citizen homeowners a tax break. Polls are open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Barnesville elections are being held at the civic center and Milner elections are at Milner Baptist church. Those voting in the county election will go to their usual precincts.Former multi-term councilman Larry B. Whitworth is taking on incumbent Robert Neal Devane in Barnesville’s Ward 4 race. BBQ & Blues festival chairman T.J. Imberger opposes incumbent Mark Stone in the Ward 5 race.In Milner, veteran councilman George Weldon, newcomer Tracey Smallwood and newly appointed councilman Roger Samples are vying for two at-large council seats.Countywide, voters can approve or disapprove a homestead exemption from school ad valorem taxes of up to $7,000 of the assessed value of the homestead after a specified five-year phase-in period for those age 70 and older.For voting status info, call the registrar’s office at 770-358-5235.There are 9,543 active voters and 2,260 inactive voters in Lamar.
