VOTE TODAY: Polls open 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Lamar County voters go to the polls today to cast ballots in the General election. Polling places throughout the county will be open from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Realtime election results will be posted on barnesville.com was they become available tonight.

There are two contested local races on ballots.

Voters in District 2 will choose between Democrat Ulanda Barkley and Republican Jason Lovett to fill a seat on the Lamar County commission.

Those in District 3 will also vote in a commission race. Three candidates, all Republicans, are battling it out for that post. They are Glen Allen, Ashley Gilles and Michael Turner. Most observers expect that race to go to a runoff.

Unless you have been living completely off the grid, you are aware of the two heated statewide races on the ballot.

Incumbent Gov. Brian Kemp (R) is being challenged by Democrat Stacey Abrams. Kemp narrowly defeated Abrams four years ago.

In the US Senate race, UGA football great Herschel Walker, a Republican, is challenging incumbent Sen. Raphael Warnock, a Democrat.

If early voting totals are any indication, turnout will be higher than normal. Elections supervisor Anita Reid and her staff are exhausted after serving 4,487 early and absentee voters over the past three weeks. Turnout was at 33.6% before the polls opened today.
