In the aftermath of the shooting death January 30 of Charles G. Adams, Lamar County sheriff Larry Waller refused to release routine records regarding the case. Specifically requested and denied were the booking photo and booking folio sheet on murder suspect Ronald Eugene Smith. To that end, Herald-Gazette publisher Walter Geiger filed and hand delivered a request Feb. 2 for those and additional documents connected to the case. At presstime Monday, Waller had not responded. Among the additional documents requested were the booking histories of both Adams and Smith at the local detention center.
