Water to flow smoothly

By Sherri Ellington While her official last day as general manager of the Lamar County Water Authority is Aug. 31 and she plans to begin a new job with PetroSouth in Griffin by Sept. 12, Amberly Ferris will stay on with the authority until Barnesville takes over the water service ‘“ a move planned to begin Sept. 1, when the authority office will close. Current and future payments should be remitted to Barnesville city hall, 109 Forsyth St., Barnesville, 30204. This includes the billing statement that will be mailed Aug. 31. At its Aug. 23 meeting, the authority voted to keep her as an independent contractor at a part-time pay rate of $35 an hour. Ferris will work in the field as billing operations and customer support is moved to Barnesville city hall. ’She knows more about what’s going on than anybody else,’ said chairman Wesley Wilson. ‘She’ll be on hand after hours during the week and on weekends, whatever it takes to ensure our responsibilities are still being done.’
