What Obamacare really means

By Donna M. Haney, M.D. A few days ago President Obama made a very revealing statement. He was giving a campaign speech to a group in Roanoke, Va. His statement is as follows: ‘If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.’ Considering the other statements in his speech, many people, including myself, believe that the somebody else he was referring to was the government. When I first heard his statements, I felt my blood boil and my blood pressure rise. After thinking about it for a few minutes, I realized that he was right, although not in the way he thinks he is. From the time I was born my parents, grandparents and other family members have supported me and prayed for me to have the opportunities to be successful in my life. These prayers and moral support continued all through my school years and when I was struggling to gain acceptance into medical school. When I began my medical practice (a small business), my parents did everything they could do to help. I have had lots of patients through the years who have been supportive of my business and I very much appreciate them. When I chose to purchase a 100-year-old building in Zebulon to use for my office, I had help from contractors, bankers, friends and family who were instrumental in helping renovate my building. Despite all this help, don’t anyone, including the President of the United States, dare tell me I did not build my business. That is a slap in the face to everyone who has ever owned a small business. Mr. Obama is not there when I am cleaning bathrooms and mopping floors on the weekend because I can’t afford to pay someone else to do it. He is not there with me when I work until 9 p.m. trying to get the bugs out of a computer system he mandated I purchase. He is not there as I mow grass at my office in 99 degree weather. He is not there as I try to do the payroll and realize I won’t be getting paid that week because after I pay employees, payroll taxes and malpractice insurance there is not enough money left over to pay me. Mr. Obama, don’t you dare tell me I am not the one who has built my business from the ground up. As a concerned citizen and a small business owner who sees firsthand what Obamacare is doing and is going to do to your healthcare and your taxes, I am begging people to wake up. You can no longer be more concerned about who is on Survivor and American Idol than who the President and your other government officials are. A few days before the 2008 election, President Obama made this statement to a group of supporters: ‘We are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America.’ Mr. Obama definitely told the truth with that statement. Since being elected he has declared that the United States is not a Christian nation. He has disrespected Israel and her leaders. He has started our medical system on the path to socialized medicine and total government control of your health care. He has encouraged dependence of people on the government instead of the traditional American independent spirit. He has done these things and plans many more that will continue to fundamentally change the United States of America. May God have mercy on our souls.
