Brad White has formally announced his intention to seek the office of Lamar County sheriff. White will run as a Republican. Incumbent sheriff Larry Waller will not seek reelection.White is the first to announce for the office although political newcomer Frank Usher is expected to run as a Democrat and former sheriff Joe Buice may run as an Independent.White’s formal announcement follows:Major Brad White announced his run for the office of sheriff saying, ‘I have the executive experience and discipline to run this important office with distinction.’ White pointed out that he already has executive experience as police chief for the city of Milner and currently as chief deputy in the sheriff’s office. ’As Lamar County’s highest law enforcement officer, protecting the Constitutional rights of every citizen while running a lean and effective law enforcement organization is my primary role,’ White said. White points to his experience in the sheriff’s office ‘“ managing the patrol, investigative and jail divisions ‘“ making him the ideal candidate to assume the office of sheriff.On fiscal responsibility White said, ‘Inflation has eroded the value of the dollar over the last five years and a budget that stays the same year to year actually is a budget cut. For fiscal year 2011, the sheriff’s office beat inflation with spending that was $307,198 less than spent in 2007.’Maj. Brad White has been in law enforcement for nearly two decades, handling criminal activity, domestic issues, civil process, courts, the jail and all other sheriff’s responsibilities. He attended Lamar County schools and has lived in Lamar County all his life.Brad has been married 13 years and has two children. He said he will serve the people as sheriff of Lamar County without regard to race, color, creed, national origin, sexual orientation or economic status in the community.
