Willie James Crawford

Willie James Crawford died Saturday, May 10, 2014. Mr. Crawford was born June 7, 1925, in Pike County to the late Burnice and Essie Lee Crawford. He was educated in the Spalding County school system and attended Sand Hill CME and other churches in the area. After completing school he enlisted with the Army on Jan. 4, 1946, and fought in World War II and the Korean War. He received a Victory Medal. He retired from the Atlanta Gas Light Company after working over 30 years. He was preceded in death by his daughter Wyvonia Ellis. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth H. Crawford of Barnesville; children and their spouses, Johnny and Mary Dennis, Ricky and Rhonda Crawford, Joyce Banks, Van Crawford and Dan and Edna Crawford, all of Griffin, and Gwendolyn Crawford of Texas; stepchildren and their spouses, Bennie and Vivadon Horton, Shirley Crawford and John and Cynthia Banks, all of Barnesville, Larry and Edwina Horton of Gray, Rose McLeod of Riverdale, Brenda and Henry Hopson and Linda and Thomas Barnes of Warner Robins, Rev. William and Elaine Banks of Shreveport, La., and Jimmy and Vernice Banks of Macon; and a host of grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Services were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 15, 2014, at Sand Hill CME Church. Rev. Calvin Minter officiated. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Griffin. Bentley and Sons Funeral Home of Barnesville had charge of arrangements.
