Woman cleared in wreck that killed her fiancé

The March term grand jury, which convened last week, issued a no bill in the case of a woman who was involved in a crash that killed her fiancé here on July 25, 2017. A single count of second degree vehicular homicide filed against Laura Hunter Wynne, 29, of Griffin was no-billed by the grand jury. Wynne was at the wheel of a 2016 Toyota Corolla following a 2017 Harley-Davidson motorcycle driven by 27-year-old William Christopher (Chris) Stanfield of Milner. According to a report by the state patrol, both were eastbound on Hwy. 18 West when Stanfield slowed suddenly, apparently to turn northbound onto Cannafax Road. The Toyota struck the bike from the rear at about 8:30 p.m. Stanfield was thrown from the Harley, severely injured and lifeflighted to the Grady trauma center in Atlanta where he died at 12:21 a.m. July 26, 2017. Stanfield was a Marine and had served two tours of duty in Afghanistan. He worked as an electrical engineer at Caterpillar in Griffin.
