Woman found at Lamar Inn & Suites identified

The body of a sign language interpreter who worked with two or three students at Gordon College on a contractual basis was found in a room at Lamar Inn and Suites off Veterans Parkway here just before noon Wednesday. UPDATE: The woman has been identified by Lamar coroner Jim Smith as Shaunta Olson, 46, of Dunwoody, Ga. GBI crime scene technician Todd Crosby and two additional agents are currently working the scene along with BPD investigators and those from the Lamar sheriff’s office. Also on site were Gordon College police, assistant district attorney Scott Johnston, Lamar coroner Jim Smith and deputy coroner Cindy Killingsworth. Sources close to the investigation report the woman, a black female in her mid-40s, was found partially nude. Evidence at the scene indicates she may have been indulging in autoerotic asphyxiation prior to her death. Autoerotic asphyxiation is the practice of strangling or suffocating one’s self in order to heighten sexual arousal and orgasm during sex or masturbation. There are unconfirmed reports of a video camera and open computer internet connection in the room that could indicate her sex act was being watched online or being taped for later online distribution at the time of her death. The dead woman reportedly lived at the hotel while on the job at Gordon two days per week.
