A woman suffered serious injuries Tuesday morning when her Cadillac smashed into a railroad crossing sign stanchion on Veterans Parkway nears it’s intersection with Highway 36 West in Barnesville.The crash happened about 8:15 a.m. when the vehicle hit the stanchion, ripping it from a concrete and steel base. The Cadillac was heavily damaged. A lifeflight chopper was summoned for the woman but could not take off due to weather at its base location. She was taken by ambulance to a Macon trauma center.Traffic was snarled in the area for some time. Southbound traffic on the four-lane was rerouted down Rose Avenue then along Thomaston Street back to the expressway.
